We may have been robbed of an epic match between two of tennis’ “big four”, Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal, but it’s going to be a tennis treat to watch the women’s semi finals.
What a great time for AMERICAN women’s tennis. It is the first time in 36 years to have 4 women in US Open semifinals. That’s right, the first time since 1981.
Over the years we have been treated to some great womens tennis with Serena, Venus and many other’s who have dotted the top spots in the world rankings. But this week is EXTRA special. Four spots for in the semi-finals occupied by FOUR American tennis players. It’s going to be hard to root for or against any of them. We have Venus, who has been a mainstay of great female tennis for, like, FOREVER! We have Madison Keys who has worked so hard and with her coach, tennis great Lindsay Davenport, and has really pulled it all together for this tournament. We have spark plug Coco Vandeweghe whose all-out-there tennis has entertained us in the past couple of years and who is now showing how hard work with HER coach, Pat Cash, has channelled her emotions into to tennis energy. Last, but not least, is the young star, Sloane Stephens. After fighting back from injuries, a more composed, mature Stevens is now on the court. With her power and poise, she has accomplish an astounding rise from 935 to, currently 35 and on to be a contender for one of tennis’ greatest tournaments. She’ll have to overcome the awe that no doubt lingers in her when she plays the great Venus Williams who is, no doubt one of her heroes.
Enjoy the great tennis in store and remember – USA USA USA! American tennis WINS no matter what.
